(the late Michelangelo with Dalì)
Michelangelo was the son of the son of the descendent of the...and so forth...of the
great great grandfather who initially started to make wine in this lovely estate situated
south-east of Florence, in the "Montespertoli doc" area. The cellars are dated
back to 1583, by engravings in the ancient vaulting, but the wine-making of
Poggio
Capponi that we know now, started in the post war times. Michelangelo
managed to re-modernize the estate and create a whole range of fantastic wines
at an excellent price. Unfortunately, in 2004 he was hit by deadly illness.

Poggio Capponi is still a family run wine estate that is in continuous evolution. The Montespertoli area is easily ignored but is definitely worth at
least as much attention as any other area of Tuscany.
The location of a production area is of importance, but also
the winemaker and the effort that he puts into his wine are essential
to the final products. We would like to
emphasize the price/quality relationship that make the Poggio Capponi wines
valuable in every way.

(The cellar underneath the wine estate
contains all the
historical bottles)
Poggio Capponi’s Tinorso is a true classic
amongst the Super Tuscans. It gained a lot of popularity during the nineties
but unlike its famous counterparts, Tinorso managed maintained an accessible
price level without ever compromising the superior quality of this excellent
wine.
